Vespa nije samo ostavila trag na celu jednu epohu, već je postala evropski simbol borbe za oporavak od katastrofe drugog svetskog rata. Piaggio je izašao iz konflikta sa svojom Pontendera fabrikom potpuno demoliranom bombama. Kompanijom je upravljao Enrico Piaggio, pošto ju je preuzeo od svog oca Rinalda. Enrico je odlučio da se više ne bavi aeronautikom, i da se usredsredi na probleme ličnog prevoza.
Slomljena ekonomija Italije i katastrofalno stanje puteva nisu obećavali brz razvoj tržišta automobila. Ali glad za pokretljivošću je zahtevala brze odgovore. Zahvaljujući intuiciji Enrica Piaggia, u proleće 1946. godine rođena je Vespa.
D’Ascanio, koji nije voleo motorcikle, dizajnirao je revolucionarno vozilo. Koristeći svoje znanje o aeronautici, on je zamislio vozilo izgrađeno na ramu i sa ručicom za menjanje brzine. Motor je postavio na zadnji točak. Prednja viljuška, kao kod točka za sletanje kod aviona, omogućuvala je laku zamenu točka.
U aprilu 1946. godine, prvih 15 Vespi izašlo je iz Pontedera fabrike. Prva Vespa je imala 98cc i dvotaktni motor omogućavajući, 3.5 KS na 4,500 obrtaja. Dostizala je 60 kilometara na sat i imala je 3 brzine. To je bilo pravo vozilo na dva točka. Ali nije ličila na neudoban i bučan motorcikl; ona je na prvi pogled isticala klasu i eleganciju
Vespin uspeh je bio fenomen koji se više nikada neće ponoviti. Do kraja 1949. godine, proizvedeno je 35,000 komada. Italija je preboljevala svoje ratne rane i putovala Vespama. Za deset godina, proizvedeno je milion Vespi. Do sredine pedesetih godina, Vespe su već proizvodili u Nemačkoj, Velikoj Britaniji, Francuskoj, Belgiji, Španiji i, naravno, Italiji, a samo nekoliko godina kasnije, u Indiji i Indoneziji.


125 1948. godine, legendarni 150 GS 1955., 50cc 1963., Primavera 1968., kao i PX, rođen 1978. godine koji se i danas još uvek proizvodi u klasi 125, 150 i 200cc , su samo neki od stepena tehničke i stilističke evolucije najpoznatijeg dvotočkaša na svetu. Ali Vespa nije samo komercijalni fenomen. Tokom godina Vespa je postala sinonim “Dolce Vita”-e. Dopisnici stranih novina opisivali su Italiju kao “zemlju Vespi”, a kakvu je ulogu Vespa igrala u italijanskom društvu prikazano je njenim pojavljivanjem u mnogim filmovima.
Iznenađuje sposobnost Vespe da preživi od jedne generacije mladih ljudi do neke drugačije generacije, dovitljivo menjajući svoj imidž svaki put. Prva Vespa je nudila pokretljivost svakome. Tokom šezdesetih i sedamdesetih godina, ona je predstavljala vozilo za propagiranje revolucije ideja čiji su pobornici bili klinci tih godina. Reklamne kampanje kao što je “Ko vozi Vespu taj je pobednik” simbolišu jednu eru u našoj istoriji.

Steampunk Vespa Piaggio scooter modded by greek artist is eye candy


The iconic Vespa Piaggio scooter will never be forgotten by people who once rode it and also for the generation next who fantasize about riding one even more that driving a Hayabusa. Ok, the comparison might have got a bit blown out but still no one will ever forget those five words “Vespa”. Add a few more words on the paper and you’ll get a Steampunk Vespa that truly captures your imagination. Designed and modded by Pulsar Projects. This steampunkish Vespa Guardian was the result of greek artist and profound sculptor Coffin Cris who turned one legendary Italian auto symbol into a retro Steampunk wonder.

Probably one of the prime work of art to feature in the Vespa Piaggio Museum with chrome finish tires, clutch and brake pedals. Also there are bright blue LED lights for showing the speed and other statistics while the exteriors are all draped in copper, brass and silverfish finish anywhere you set eyes on this Vespa. Vespa Quarantasei Concept – The Future of Vespa


Vespa has built a reputation for classic, retro-styled scooters, trading on its iconic styling. The Quarantasei concept unveiled at EICMA however is a look toward ahead, and possibly the most futuristic looking Vespa ever.

The Quarantasei is named for the number 46, which represents the year Vespa first began producing scooters. (UPDATE: The Piaggio Group has quietly decided to rename the concept scooter the Vespa 946. The new name is much easier to spell and pronounce for non-Italian speakers, making it easier to market – if Piaggio ever decides to bring the 946 to production …)
Designed by the Vespa Pontedera Style Center, the Quarantasei maintains classic Vespa lines established from the original 1945 MP6 prototype, the “Wasp” that became forefather of all Vespas.
The most distinguishable element of the Quarantasei’s design is the aggressive forward lean in the rear, emphasized by the hanging seat and the way the bottom of the frame rises up towards the wasp-like tail.
While the design is purely a concept, a glimpse of possible future models, its powerplant is very real and likely to go into production in upcoming scooters. Piaggio developed a new fuel-injected 125cc four-stroke, three-valve air-cooled engine for the Quarantasei. According to Piaggio, the engine’s three-valve timing optimizes the load motion in the cylinder and the positioning of the spark plug, increasing combustion and helping keep components cool.
Piaggio claims a maximum output of 11.7 hp at 8250 rpm while torque peaks at 7.6 at 7000 rpm. A 150cc version claims peak output of 13.0 hp at 8000 rpm and torque of  9.3 at 6500 rpm.
